This trullo complex is located on top of a hill overlooking an unspoilt area of the Valle d’Itria, surrounded by oak forests and Mediterranean scrub. The project required the recovery and expansion of existing buildings and was carried out with great care and attention so as not to damage such an unspoilt location. The use of traditional materials and construction techniques allowed for maintaining the integrity and authenticity of the appearance of this typical form of architecture, while creating spaces compatible with contemporary needs and lifestyles. The restoration also involved a section of the surrounding area, re-claiming the dry stone wall terraces that hold back the slope and form a podium on which the trullo complex stands. The same elements were used to create a system of gardens and open-air spaces.
