Perfect Toilets – Bari

The project concept aims to create a multi-purpose service centre designed to meet the key needs of both tourists and residents. The introduction of these new activities will not only improve the quality of the services on offer and the management of tourism, but will also generate new job opportunities in the public services sector. The revenue generated by the centre’s activities will ensure the facility’s financial autonomy and sustainability, making it a model of best practice for long-term management. The project draws inspiration from Mediterranean architectural tradition, reinterpreting the “inner courtyard” typology typical of the Mediterranean region in which it is situated. The building conceals a secret garden within its walls, featuring native plant species, creating a true oasis of tranquillity and wellbeing; it reveals itself to visitors as an intimate and unexpected space, a place for meditation and contemplation designed to offer a moment of respite and serenity. The structure takes the form of a modular shell, constructed using traditional materials laid using dry-stone techniques on a load-bearing steel framework. This construction method, which in this specific case involves the use of local calcarenite stone, is designed to be removable and reusable in different contexts. The aim is twofold: to ensure the building blends harmoniously into its chosen setting and to minimise its visual and environmental impact.
