This building is an atypical example of a masseria, with a linear layout that differs from the traditional courtyard layout. Through an analysis of the pre-existing building we could see that it was composed of three distinct blocks, each of which dates back to a different historical period. Our intervention emphasised this historical continuity, conservatively restoring the earliest part (trulli), recovering the newer farmstead and designing the most recent part with a contemporary architectural language to meet current requirements.
