This project involved the conversion of a complex of several existing buildings of different kinds and from different historical periods. The idea was to link the various buildings with a single element, a “stone belt” surrounding the entire structure to create a uniform base from which the most distinctive part of the historical building, the conical trullo roof, emerges. The relationships with the restored historical sections, the contemporary reinterpretation of the work, and the relationship with the open spaces and surrounding landscape were the guiding principles behind this project.
