Outside the walls

Outside the walls

June – November 2015, Ostuni-Stockholm.
Presentation of proposals developed by students on the Master Course Studio 4 – AY 2015 – KTH – Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm with Corsaro Architetti

Ostuni: Cloister of the Palazzo San Francesco, Piazza della Libertà n. 67
Stockholm: KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Architecture, Osquars backe 5

By analysing the cultural “contamination” that has influenced Southern Italy, the course focused on the Valle d’Itria area, exploring this region of great historical and architectural interest in which fragments of ancient cultures are enclosed within urban walls. In this context, the students explored the urban complexity of the town of Ostuni and its surrounding area, examining and researching a contemporary development model outside the town walls, using the upgrading of social, historical and landscape heritage as their starting point.
The aim of the course was to produce a selection of urban and architectural solutions as a response to social changes. To develop these proposals, the students carried out an initial survey of Ostuni in October 2015 under the guidance of the Corsaro Architetti practice.
The project proposals resulting from this collaboration were displayed in Ostuni and Stockholm.
